Vol. 103 No. 6

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. In regard to No. 1, I might indicate it is not being opposed. It is proposed that we take items Nos. 1 to 5 until 5.30 p.m., that we should adjourn from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. and devote the remaining 90 minutes, from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m., on motion No. 6.

I presume we intend to take only the Second Stage of both the Dentists Bill and the Protection of Animals Kept for Farming Purposes Bill today.

In regard to both of those Bills, if the Second Stages are completed, my recommendation to the House would be to defer the Committee Stages to a later sitting.

Could the Leader of the House give us any indication as to when we might be getting the Social Welfare Bill?

I regret to have to inform the House that the worst fears which I expressed last week will come to pass. The Bill is being ordered in Committee in another place for Tuesday, 27 March and accordingly it is impossible for the Seanad to deal with it before Wednesday, 28 March. It will be necessary to take all Stages and to adopt an Earlier Signature Motion that week.

Order of Business agreed to.
