Seanad Éireann díospóireacht -

Vol. 116 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator John A. Murphy that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The presentation by the Government, through publicly-funded advertisements, of a party political view of the issues involved in the Referendum on the Tenth Amendment of the Constitution Bill.

I also received notice from Senator Dan Kiely of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Tourism and Transport, in these years of economic difficulties, to ensure maximum potential and earnings in the lucrative and job creating tourism industry.

I also received notice from Senator Maurice Manning of the following matter:

The current position in the Irish lighthouse service, where a considerable number of lighthouses are being converted from a manned to automatic status.

I regard the matters raised by Senator Murphy and Senator Dan Kiely as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Murphy's motion for today's Adjournment and it will be taken from 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Senator Dan Kiely may give notice for another day of the matter he wishes to raise. I regret I have to rule that the matter raised by Senator Manning is not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the ground of lack of ministerial responsibility. I have written to Senator Maurice Manning that it is the responsibility of the Commission of Irish Lights. Therefore, we will take Senator John A. Murphy's motion tonight on the Adjournment of the House from 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., if that is the time we adjourn.
