Vol. 214 No. 4

Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator Pat O'Neill that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice and Equality, in the light of the outcome of the recent High Court case concerning firearms licensing, to engage with the National Association of Regional Game Councils with a view to addressing the flaws in the licensing system.

I have also received notice from Senator Denis O'Donovan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to indicate the current stage of the flood relief scheme for Skibbereen, County Cork; the current position of the early warning system; and the arrangements, if any, to carry out flood relief works in 2012-13.

I have also received notice from Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh of the following matter:

Go dtabharfaidh an tAire Oideachais agus Scileanna soiléiriú ar an dul chun cinn maidir le scoil phobail nua a thógáil ar an gClochán, i gContae na Gaillimhe agus an féidir leis deimhniú go gcríochnófar go luath í trína cur san áireamh mar chuid den phlean tógála cúig bliana a bheidh sé ag foilsiú go luath.

I have also received notice from Senator Fidelma Healy Eames of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Skills to reclassify Down's syndrome as a low incidence disability in order that children with the syndrome receive teaching and learning resources appropriate to their needs.

I have also received notice from Senator Deirdre Clune of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to ensure the increase in the use of heroin in the Cork region is tackled in an effective manner.

I have also received notice from Senator Martin Conway of the following matter:

The need for the Minster for Education and Skills to outline when he plans to build a community school in Ennistymon, County Clare, to replace the three existing second level schools.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators Pat O'Neill, Denis O'Donovan, Trevor ÓClochartaigh and Fidelma Healy Eames and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Deirdre Clune and Martin Conway may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
