Vol. 222 No. 11

Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Skills to allow Scoil Mhuire, Stranorlar, County Donegal to proceed to construction through the school building capital programme, given that the project was approved for initial inclusion.

I have also received notice from Senator David Cullinane of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation to outline the steps he and his Department have taken to safeguard jobs at the Diageo site in Waterford; the total investment of public moneys in the Diageo site; and if there is any clawback clause.

I have also received notice from Senator Averil Power of the following matter:

The need for the Minister of State with responsibility for primary care to approve the proposal for a south-east Fingal drugs and alcohol awareness project to replace the former Howth-based project and ensure this area is not left without a service.

I have also received notice from Senator Lorraine Higgins of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to outline the steps he is taking to ensure standardised criteria are applied in regard to unfinished estates in the calculation of the amount due in property tax.

I have also received notice from Senator Jillian van Turnhout of the following matter:

In the light of the Social Welfare and Pensions (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009 precluding asylum seekers from being granted habitual residency status, the need for the Minister for Social Protection to outline the legislative basis for the accommodation and payments made to asylum seekers under the system of direct provision.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Brian Ó Domhnaill, David Cullinane, Averil Power and Lorraine Higgins as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. I regret that I have had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Jillian van Turnhout as the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter.
