Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

The students of Sancta Maria College, Louisburgh, County Mayo, are welcome to Leinster House. I hope they have a pleasant visit, enjoy their trip, learn and that we can learn from them too. I also welcome their teachers - the principal, Dr. Moran, and Miss Rice. As a former teacher, I thank the students' teachers and commend them on the work they are doing and the interest they are showing. I hope the students show their appreciation of their work and commitment.

I also welcome Senator Keogan back to the House. I am glad to see her here with us. I hope she is feeling okay and I thank her for being here.

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters:

Senator Victor Boyhan - The need for the Minister for Justice to make a statement on the roles envisaged for city and county councillors in the proposed local community safety partnerships.Senator Sharon Keogan - The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on Ireland's decision to opt out of the amendment made to Article 59 of the international health regulations, adopted by the World Health Assembly on 27 May, 2022.Senator Erin McGreehan - The need for the Minister of State with responsibility for mental health and older people to make a statement on the supports available to an individual and family members during a crisis mental health episode.Senator Niall Blaney - The need for the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications to make a statement on the status of Ireland’s national power grid and his plans to make the network fit for purpose for future offshore capacity.Senator Paul Gavan - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to make a statement on the future funding of the social intervention fund for Limerick City and the implications for community projects.

The matters raised by the Senators are suitable for discussion and they will be taken now. Senator Robbie Gallagher has withdrawn his Commencement matter, which I had originally selected.

I welcome the Minister, Deputy McEntee. I thank her, the line Minister in the Department, for being here. It is always great when we have senior Cabinet Ministers at the commencement of the House sitting. I thank her for being here.
