105 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will indicate whetherthere were guidelines issued by the Department of Education and Science with regard to the proper use of corporal punishment in primary schools and in industrial schools during the years 1950-1970; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In September 1956 my Department issued circular 17/56 to managers and teachers of national schools in regard to corporal punishment.

I am arranging for a copy of the circular to be issued to the Deputy.
