Ceisteanna (123)

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

133 Mr. Timmins asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Carlow was not informed that his spouse who was brought to Naas Hospital on 4 May 2005 by ambulance following a suicide attempt, would have been admitted for treatment if two doctors signed her in; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Health Act 2004 provided for the Health Service Executive, which was established on 1 January 2005. Under this Act, the executive has the responsibility to manage and deliver, or arrange to be delivered on its behalf, health and personal social services. This includes the provision of psychiatric services and the allocation of funding for such services. Accordingly, my Department has requested the chief officer for the Health Service Executive's eastern regional area to reply directly to the Deputy in this matter.
