667 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a long stay bed was not given to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo when requested, in view of their age and the fact that their spouse can no longer care for them at home. [28634/06]

The Deputy's question relates to the management and delivery of health and personal social services, which are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004. Accordingly, the Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have this matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.

668 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of hospital wards which have been closed in 2006 to date; the number of beds which have been lost in each hospital throughout the State for the same period due to renovations, infection control, recruitment policies or difficulties, special patient needs and financial reasons; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
