229 Deputy Joan Burton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number to date of civil servants and employees of State bodies transferred from Dublin to decentralised locations; the number transferred from outside of Dublin to other decentralised locations; and the number transferred in post to decentralising Departments in Dublin pending planned decentralisation to locations outside of Dublin. Amharc ar fhreagraUnder the Government's decentralisation programme, the Development Cooperation Directorate of the Department of Foreign Affairs, which is Irish Aid's Headquarters, will decentralise to Limerick. This is scheduled to take place in early 2008 on completion and fit-out of the permanent premises in Henry Street. Good progress has been made and personnel have either been assigned to, or identified for, 103 posts or approximately 83% of the 124 posts scheduled to be decentralised.
An advance party involving 55 staff has already decentralised to interim office premises in Limerick. Forty-nine of these were Dublin-based applicants and the remaining 6 were from provincial locations.
Two officers of this Department, based in the Passport Office Cork, transferred directly to their chosen decentralised location in other Departments.
Twenty three Dublin based-officers of this Department have transferred to other Departments with a view to moving to a provincial location under the Decentralisation Programme. Thirteen of these officers initially transferred to Dublin- based offices of the respective decentralising Departments and ten transferred directly to a provincial location.
