Ceist:

911 Deputy Olwyn Enright asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs if she will reconsider continuing a payment to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that they will not be able to complete their course unless this payment is restored; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Under the back to education allowance (BTEA) scheme, a person in receipt of a social welfare payment may receive support to pursue a full time course of education. The person referred to by the Deputy is in receipt of one parent family payment from this Department. It is understood that the person is pursuing a part time BA in Social Care. A contribution was provided previously towards the initial cost of the course. Funding of this nature is on a once off basis. The Department of Social and Family Affairs does not have a system of support to cover the payment of fees for part time education courses.
