103 Deputy Seán Sherlock asked the Minister for Defence the position regarding the investigation being carried out into an allegation that a member of the Naval Service was supplying information on patrol vessel movements to drug smugglers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1996/10]
Amharc ar fhreagraI am advised by the Military Authorities that a comprehensive investigation into this allegation has been completed. A Report on the matter has recently been forwarded to the Director of Military Prosecutions who will determine what action, if any, is required under the Defence Act. The Military Authorities have further advised that the individual in question, as is standard practice in such instances, has been redeployed elsewhere within the Naval Service. The Deputy will appreciate that it would be inappropriate for me to comment any further on this matter at this point in time.
