It is a statutory requirement of the appeals process that the relevant Departmental papers and comments by the Social Welfare Services on the grounds of appeal be sought. When received the appeal in question will be referred to an Appeals Officer for consideration.
The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister of Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions on social welfare entitlements.

Amharc ar fhreagraThe Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised me that the appeal from the person concerned has been referred to an Appeals Officer who proposes to hold an oral hearing in the case. The person concerned will be informed when arrangements have been made.

Amharc ar fhreagraI am advised by the Social Welfare Appeals Office that, an Appeals Officer, having considered all the available evidence, including that adduced at an oral hearing, disallowed the carer's allowance appeal of the person concerned.
However, following the submission of additional medical evidence the Appeals Officer agreed to review the case. The Appeals Officer has forwarded the medical evidence to the Chief Medical Advisor for his opinion. Following the Chief Medical Advisor's determination the case will be referred back to an Appeals Officer for further consideration. The person concerned will be contacted when the appeal has been finalised.
