Durkan asked the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation when a review will be completed in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who has applied for a work permit in respect of an employee with specialised skills, in view of the fact that evidence has already been submitted to address issues raised previously; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department processes applications in respect of the different types of employment permits and all applications are processed in line with the Employment Permits Act 2006.
I wish to advise the Deputy that it is current Government policy to issue new employment permits only in respect of:
highly skilled, highly paid positions or;
non-EEA nationals who are already legally resident in the State on valid employment permits or;
where there is an officially recognized scarcity of workers of a particular type or qualification.
I am informed that there is no record of a valid application in this case. However, if the prospective employer or employee wishes to submit a completed application with all of the relevant attachments and fee, it will be considered on its own merits.
