Ceisteanna (143)

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

143 Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation when a review will be completed in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who has applied for a work permit in respect of an employee with specialised skills, in view of the fact that evidence has already been submitted to address issues raised previously; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department processes applications in respect of the different types of employment permits and all applications are processed in line with the Employment Permits Act 2006.

I wish to advise the Deputy that it is current Government policy to issue new employment permits only in respect of:

highly skilled, highly paid positions or;

non-EEA nationals who are already legally resident in the State on valid employment permits or;

where there is an officially recognized scarcity of workers of a particular type or qualification.

I am informed that there is no record of a valid application in this case. However, if the prospective employer or employee wishes to submit a completed application with all of the relevant attachments and fee, it will be considered on its own merits.
