Ceisteanna (85)

Dominic Hannigan

Ceist:

85 Deputy Dominic Hannigan asked the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation if any consideration has been given to the idea that a separate section be created in the Companies Registration Office for not-for-profit organisations in order to lower the costs of registering with the CRO and alleviate the administrative burden; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Not-for-profit organisations that choose to incorporate as companies are treated in the same manner as all other entities that incorporate in this form. They enjoy the benefits of being a company such as separate legal personality and limited liability and also must meet their obligations under the Companies Acts.

It is open to such organisations to avail of other corporate structures or to operate under other forms of legal entity if they consider it appropriate having regard to their own individual circumstances.
