590. Deputy Billy Timmins asked the Minister for Transport; Tourism and Sport the position regarding funding for an organisation (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [41274/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Irish Sports Council (ISC), which is funded by my Department, is the statutory body with responsibility for the allocation of current funding to sports organisations. The ISC channels funding through the relevant National Governing Bodies of Sport. In the case of sailing, the funding is provided to the Irish Sailing Association. The Irish Sports Council has no mechanism by which funding can be provided to individual clubs outside of this process.
Unfortunately, I have no discretionary funding available to me through which sponsorship could be provided and I regret that I am unable to assist the organisation mentioned by the Deputy. I would suggest that the team approach the Irish Sailing Association in this matter.
I would like to wish the team every success in the competition.
