623. Deputy Regina Doherty asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if consideration is being given to the establishment of a national DNA crime database; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5122/13]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Government is committed to the establishment of a DNA database to assist the Garda Síochána in the investigation of crime. The Criminal Justice (Forensic Evidence and DNA Database System) Bill, which will provide for the establishment and operation of the database, is included in the 'A list' of the Government Legislation Programme with a view to its publication this term and its enactment later this year.
