642. Deputy Dessie Ellis asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the amount of subvention provided to Córas Iompair Éireann, Luas and other companies providing public transport in each of the years from 2007 to date, in tabular form, and the estimated subvention for 2016. [44211/15]

As the Deputy is aware, Exchequer subvention is provided in respect of Public Service Obligation (PSO) public transport services. The Luas does not receive any such subvention funding.

Since 2010, the award of PSO contracts and disbursement of subvention funding falls under the independent statutory remit of the National Transport Authority (NTA) which has direct responsibility for this area. Prior to that, the Department directly provided the allocated subvention to the transport operators.

Regarding the subvention for 2016 to CIÉ the figure is €236.6m. This is a 13% increase on the 2015 figure. The NTA is currently finalising the allocations for each individual company.

The total PSO subvention provided to transport operators by both this Department and the NTA (since 2010) in the years 2007 to 2015 is as follows:
