155. Deputy David Cullinane asked the Minister for Education and Skills the staff retention levels in Waterford Institute of Technology; his plans and timescale for completing the engineering block on its grounds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11375/16]
Amharc ar fhreagraAs part of the budgetary process in November 2011 a Government decision was taken to concentrate available educational capital resources on delivering school places and to restrict investment in higher education infrastructure to legally binding contractual commitments that existed at that time. The project referred to by the Deputy had not reached the point of being a legally binding contractual commitment by November 2011. Going forward, the needs of Waterford Institute of Technology will be considered in the context of capital resources available for the higher education sector and having regard to competing demands.
We have been informed by Waterford Institute of Technology that its staff retention levels are as follows.
The figures for 2015 are: 74 staff left, 15 of these on retirement. The turnover rate was 8.05% (74/919.48).
The figures for 2016 (up to March) are: 19 staff have left (no retirees). The turnover rate to date is 2.08% (19/914.64).
