In line with the new Framework for Junior Cycle 2015, new specifications for all subjects are being introduced on a phased basis between 2014 and 2019. Once each subject specification has been experienced by a cohort of students across the three year span of their Junior Cycle, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) will conduct an interim review to monitor enactment of the specification in schools.
The Deputy will be aware that English was the first subject to be introduced as part of the new Framework, with the subject being introduced to first year students in September 2014. These students sat the Junior Cycle State examination in English earlier this month, with the indications being that the examination was well received by students and teachers. The NCCA is currently planning for the review of English.
