161. Deputy Niall Collins asked the Minister for Education and Skills the number of apprentices in training by each employment sector and sub sector in 2016 and to date in 2017 that were learners with learning difficulties and or disabilities, in tabular form; and the allocation given to such apprenticeships. The information sought by the Deputy is set out in the following table. It is important to note, however, that SOLAS does not require employers to record whether an apprentice has a disability or a learning difficulty and therefore the attached sets out apprentices who have made a self-declaration in this regard.

Every effort is made to support special need requirements that apprentices have once this is brought to the attention of their Training Adviser of at the time of registration.
