42. Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if the Executive will be proposing an Irish candidate for the Presidency of the European Commission from 2019. [30827/18]
Amharc ar fhreagraUnder the Treaties, it is for the European Council acting by a qualified majority, taking into account the elections to the European Parliament and after having held the appropriate consultations, to propose to the European Parliament a candidate for President of the Commission. As a member of the European Council, the Taoiseach will participate actively in these discussions.
