589. Deputy John Curran asked the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment the number of householders in each local authority not signed up to a waste service provider; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29805/19]
Amharc ar fhreagraLocal authorities do not record or register the number of households signed up or not signed up to a residential waste collection service. Such a record would not reflect the households who do not have a collection service available or who arrange the disposal of their waste at a civic amenity site and home compost. However, a report prepared by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) in September 2018 on the household waste collection industry provided an initial estimate that suggested a initial non-participation rate of 23% of households in relation to waste collection services.
