1292. Deputy Cormac Devlin asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the status of the pandemic unemployment payment scheme; the number of persons availing of the scheme; the cost for each of the weeks ending 15 March to 3 May 2020, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment is an emergency payment introduced by the Government for a 12 week period for employees and self-employed people who have lost all their employment due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.  The original rate of payment was €203 per week which was increased to €350 per week.

It is expected that 585,000 will receive the payment during week commencing 18th May 2020 costing €204.6 million.

The number of persons availing of the scheme and the weekly expenditure since its introduction are outlined in the following table:
