As this is a service matter I have asked the HSE to reply directly to the Deputy concerning the information sought as soon as possible. The National EWTD Verification Group clearly identified the need to distinguish between rostered hours and worked hours and to report on the latter in its engagement with hospitals and other sites where NCHDs are employed. Similarly the HSE's guidance to hospitals and other sites for the purposes of the completion of the monthly EWTD reporting template specifies how to calculate 'working time' under the EWTD.

The National Review of Specialist Cardiac Services commenced in January 2018 under the Chairmanship of Professor Phillip Nolan and a Steering Group formed from nominations of interested stakeholders representing medical, professional/technical staff, nursing and patient representatives.

The aim of the Cardiac Services Review is to achieve optimal patient outcomes at population level with particular emphasis on the safety, quality and sustainability of the services that patients receive, by establishing the need for an optimal configuration of a national adult cardiac service. This aligns with the Sláintecare reform programme. In terms of scope, the National Review covers scheduled and unscheduled hospital-based services for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease in adults.

The COVID-19 Pandemic impacted on the progress of the review during 2020 and into 2021 as the Chair of the Cardiac Services Review has played a key role in the national COVID-19 response.

Currently the Steering Group is working on the development of the proposed recommendations of the draft report.  The Steering Group most recently met on the 26th of May 2022 to further progress the review and planning for the next meeting in the coming weeks.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 608 to 610, inclusive, 650 and 651 together.

Sligo University Hospital has had a Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory service operating 1 to 2 days per week (mobile service) delivering diagnostic angiographies, with referral pathways to Galway University Hospitals for speciality Cardiology interventions up to the 30th June 2022.

Following the decision of the private company providing the service to cease operations of the mobile Cath Lab Services at the hospital, the Saolta Group worked with hospital management on possible contingency measures.

Following an examination of the options, it was determined that Sligo patients will be treated at University Hospital Galway with designated slots being allocated for this cohort of patients. This arrangement will stay in place until the publication of the National Review of Cardiac Services later this year.

I have asked the HSE to respond directly to the Deputy to provide additional details regarding cardiac services at Sligo University Hospital.

Under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the HSE has statutory responsibility for the administration of the community drug schemes; therefore, the matter has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
