Ceisteanna (184)

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

184. Deputy Richard Bruton asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage if he will outline the terms of the grant to build accommodation for a person with a severe disability, or to substantially modify an existing home; and if he will indicate whether he is considering the revision of these terms as the cost of building has substantially changed since they were set. My Department provides funding to local authorities for the Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People and People with a Disability Scheme, to assist eligible applicants living in privately owned homes to make their accommodation more suitable for their needs. The detailed administration of this scheme including assessment, approval and prioritisation, is the responsibility of local authorities. Further details on the terms of the scheme can found on my Department's website at the following link:

Housing for All commits to reviewing the suite of Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People and People with a Disability. Among the areas which the review, currently underway, will consider are the income thresholds, the grant limits, the application and decision making processes, including supplementary documentation required. The review is to be completed by the end of 2022.
