Ceisteanna (298)

Eoin Ó Broin

Ceist:

298. Deputy Eoin Ó Broin asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage his views on the claim by an organisation (details supplied) that the 2022 CSO new home completion data is incorrect and that rather than 2,9851 completions being recorded in 2022, the figure was just 23,751; and if he will provide the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage with a detailed report on this issue, setting out his Department's analysis of the issue, either confirming the accuracy of the CSO data or outlining the action that will be taken to correct the CSO data if the analysis by the organisation is correct. The Central Statistics Office (CSO) carries out its functions independent of government, and any other body, in accordance with the Statistics Act 1993.

That said, I understand the CSO clarified the matter early last week, outlining its consideration of the approach taken by the organisation named in the Question. The clarification is available on the CSO website at CSO Statement on New Dwelling Completions - CSO - Central Statistics Office.
