Vol. 7 No. 30

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GOREY POLICE BARRACKS.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that the premises at present occupied by the Gárda Síochána at Gorey have been condemned as insanitary and unfit for human habitation; that they cannot be made suitable for a permanent barracks, and that there is not at present alternative accommodation in the town; and whether he would urge on the Commissioners of Public Works the immediate restoration of the old barracks in order that the Gárdaí may be adequately housed by the winter.

I have been asked to answer this question. The Minister is aware that the building at present occupied by the Gárda Síochána at Gorey is not suitable as a permanent station, and he has asked the Commissioners of Public Works to provide suitable alternative accommodation. The Commissioners have taken steps to carry out repairs to the building now occupied. When these have been completed the building will be reasonably comfortable until permanent quarters are available.
