Vol. 9 No. 23

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ROSCOMMON CO. COUNCIL SECRETARYSHIP.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (1) whether an examination was held on 15th and 16th March, 1924, to fill the Secretaryship of the Roscommon County Council; (2) if he will give the markings in respect of the different candidates who presented themselves for that examination in respect of each subject; (3) if he will state whether Irish was an obligatory subject, and, if so, what was the number of marks necessary for a "pass" in that subject; (4) what is the name of the candidate appointed, and what place did he take as a result of the examination.

An examination in connection with this post was held in March, 1922, not in March, 1924. The general standard exhibited by candidates was not satisfactory, and an appointment was not made as a result of the examination. The advertisement in connection with the examination mentioned that one of the subjects would be a knowledge of Irish. It is not considered proper to publish markings of unsuccessful candidates at examinations. The person permanently sanctioned for the post had been acting Secretary since August, 1921.
