Vol. 10 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FLOODING IN COUNTY CLARE.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if the Land Commission has taken any action regarding the bursting of the bank of the River Garney, Rosmanagher, Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare, and if he is aware that three hundred acres are submerged, and eighty tenants are affected by the flooding.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission are aware that damage has occurred to the embankment referred to. It is situate on the estate of D'Esterre, which was sold by the owner to the tenants under the Irish Land Act, 1903, and on the sale the vendor provided a fund for the upkeep of the embankments, the income of which is expended by local trustees appointed by the tenants in accordance with a deed of trust. The Commission have had the damaged bank inspected, and have made arrangements whereby the necessary repairs will be carried out at the earliest possible date. The ordinary income is unable to meet the case.
