Vol. 10 No. 12

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MAGANEY WOMAN'S INSURANCE BENEFIT CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that Mrs. Julia Malone, Castleroe, Maganey, Co. Kildare, was visited by an inspector of his Department on the 2nd February, 1925, who collected medical certificates stating that she was suffering from neuritis and unable to work, and a further certificate was sent to Dr. Morgan, Merrion Square, Dublin, who is acting for the Insurance Commissioners, and whether he will have instructions issued to this woman as to the steps she should take to make her claim for arrears and further benefit to her society.

As promised in the reply to the Deputy's previous question on the 3rd ultimo, further inquiries were made by an inspector of the Insurance Commissioners in this case. In the course of the inquiries the inspector was handed a number of medical certificates certifying that Mrs. Malone was incapable of work from the 27th May, 1924, to the 31st January, 1925. These were duly submitted to her approved society with a request that they would take immediate steps to consider the claim and decide whether the member was entitled to benefit in respect of the above period.

The society considered the case a suitable one for reference to the District Medical Referee for his opinion on the question of the member's incapacity and his report has been forwarded to them. It is understood that the committee of management of the society will, at its next meeting, on Monday, the 16th instant, decide definitely whether the member is entitled to the benefit claimed.
