Vol. 21 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF URBAN SITES.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether, pending the introduction of legislation based upon the recommendations of the Greater Dublin Commission of Inquiry, he is prepared to introduce a Bill conferring upon Urban Districts generally or upon the Corporation of Dublin the powers suggested by paragraph 80, headings 11 and 12 of the Report of the Commission which deal with the compulsory acquisition of derelict, insanitary and condemned sites under certain conditions.

The recommendations of the Greater Dublin Commission of Inquiry are at present being specially examined in the Department, and it is not proposed at this stage to introduce legislation as suggested by the Deputy. The desirability of enlarging the existing powers possessed by Local Authorities under the Public Health and Housing enactments in the matter of acquiring derelict sites, etc., will be investigated.
