Vol. 21 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DRAINAGE OF MOY AND ROBE (MAYO).

asked the Minister for Finance if he can state when the Board of Works may be expected to complete their inquiries concerning the drainage of the rivers Moy and Robe, Co. Mayo, and when the report is likely to be furnished.

Mr. BOURKE

The River Robe and its tributaries, in respect of which petitions have been received by the Commissioners of Public Works from the Mayo County Council under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, have been inspected by their engineer, and a land valuer is at present in the district investigating the area and value of the lands that will be affected by the proposed drainage schemes.

The Moy is a much larger scheme, and the engineer who inspected the river and its tributaries has not yet completed his report. The lands in this case will also require to be inspected by a land valuer—who will be sent to the district at an early date.

The Commissioners of Public Works hope to be in a position to furnish the Mayo County Council with a preliminary statement as to the cost of the proposed work and the area and improved value of the lands affected in each case by the end of the year.
