Vol. 21 No. 15

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LOSS OF POSITIONS BY RAILWAY EMPLOYES.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether any representations have been made to the Great Southern Railway Company in the case of the three men who were transferred by the company, and who, as a result of receiving threatening letters ceased work, and to whom he referred in the reply to a question on Tuesday, 8th November, 1927, for the purpose of having these men made redundant and thereby compensated for the loss of their positions, and with what results.

The question whether any employee of the Great Southern Railway Company is entitled to compensation under the Railways Act is one which it is for the Arbitrator and not for me to decide, and I am not prepared to make representations in favour of the payment of compensation to persons not entitled to it under the provisions of that Act.

Will the Minister make any representations in the matter?

I have said that I am not prepared to make any.
