Vol. 22 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DERELICT FARMS.

Asked the Minister for Fisheries whether, in view of the fact that the Land Commission do not publish for each county the names of defaulting annuitants, the Minister will consider the advisability of sending down an inspector to work in conjunction with a nominee of each county council with a view to discovering the financial position of the owners of derelict farms.

Lists of tenant purchasers who have made default in the payment of Land Purchase Annuities are furnished periodically to county councils.

Particulars of holdings to be sold by the Land Commission by public auction for non-payment of Land Purchase Annuities are furnished to the secretary of the county council in which the holding is situated.

As an officer of the Land Commission has no power to examine a defaulting tenant purchaser as to his financial position, no useful purpose would be served by adopting the suggestions made by the Deputy.
