Vol. 22 No. 5

WRITTEN QUESTIONS. - BARLEY AND MALTING STATISTICS.

Mr. FLINN

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the number of people, men and women, boys and girls, employed in gainful occupations in the Saorstát; the number employed in primary production; and the number employed in distribution; (b) the number of men, women, boys and girls, employed in the brewing and malting industry, and in the distilling industry; (c) the amount of barley grown in the Saorstát for each of the last five years for (1) malting, (2) for feeding, and (d) the amount of imported barley used in malting in the Saorstát in each of the last five years.

Mr. McGILLIGAN

The furnishing of the particulars asked for depends on the census of population, census of industrial production and census of agriculture, and it will be necessary to await publication of the results of these censuses. They will, however, relate only to the year in respect of which they are taken, and will not cover a period of five years.
