Vol. 22 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COBH SCHOOL CHILDREN (PROVISION OF MEALS).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that a considerable number of poor children attending the National Schools at Cobh are unable, by reason of lack of food, to take full advantage of the education provided for them; that application has been made to the Commissioner of the Cobh Urban Council by the Reverend Mother, Convent National Schools, Cobh, under the provision of the Education (Provision of Meals) (Ireland) Acts, 1914 to 1917, for moneys from the rates to meet the cost of the provision of necessary food to those children, and whether he will immediately authorise the Commissioner to incur this expenditure from the rates in the financial year 1928-29.

As regards the first part of the question the Deputy made representations to me in November last. The matter is one for consideration by the Commissioner in the first instance.
