Vol. 23 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WICKLOW CIRCUIT COURT.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that the holding in Wicklow Town of the Circuit Court for County Wicklow is a cause of great inconvenience and expense to litigants living in the western part of the county; and whether he will consider altering the arrangement, so that the Court may be held alternately at Baltinglass, where suitable accommodation exists.

A petition, extensively signed by the inhabitants of West Wicklow drawing attention to the inconvenience occasioned to them as a result of their having to travel to Wicklow to attend the Circuit Court was recently presented to me by Deputy Gun O'Mahony, and I was so impressed by Deputy Gun O'Mahony's verbal representation in support of the petition that I undertook to seek the concurrence of the Committee constituted pursuant to the provisions of Section 65 of the Courts of Justice Act, 1924, for an alteration of the Rules of the Circuit Court which have been laid before each House of the Oireachtas so as to provide that the Circuit Court shall sit both in Baltinglass and Wicklow. I propose to approach the Committee when I am in a position to know what other amendments will be pressed by either House.
