CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CO. CORK REGISTRATION OFFICER.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he will state the name of the Registration Officer for the County of Cork, his salary for that office; by whom he is appointed; his years of service in that office; and whether the position is pensionable.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he can state the name of the official appointed as registration officer under the Juries Act for Cork County; his salary for that position; by whom he is appointed; his years of service in that office; and whether the position is pensionable.

I will answer these questions together:—

The County Registrar for an administrative county or county borough is ex officio registration officer for such county or county borough for the purposes of the Electoral Acts and the Juries Acts. County Registrars are appointed by the Executive Council, and their office is a pensionable office within the Superannuation Acts for the time being in force. County Registrars receive an inclusive salary in respect of all their duties, and no special salary is paid to a County Registrar in respect of his duties as registration officer for the purposes of Electoral Acts or the Juries Acts. The existing County Registrar for the amalgamated county and county borough of Cork is Mr. Daniel M.J. O'Connell, who was appointed to the office in question by the Executive Council on the 17th August. 1926, with effect as from the 1st September, 1926, the date on which the Court Officers Act, 1926, was brought into operation. Mr. O'Connell is in receipt of a salary of £1,050 per annum, plus the usual Civil Service bonus.
