Vol. 31 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Croydon Park, Marino, Children's Playgrounds.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he will take up with the Dublin City Commissioners the question of getting the parks or children's playgrounds in the Croydon Park, Marino, districts of Dublin opened without further delay.

I have been in communication with the Commissioners on this matter. I understand contracts have been entered into for the erection of pavilions. As soon as these are completed, and the grass surfaces are sufficiently matured, the grounds will be opened.

Is the Minister aware that there is a large amount of traffic in this area, with consequent grave danger in the way of accidents to children? As a matter of fact, there have been some accidents in the district; children were involved in those accidents, which were caused largely through the heavy bus traffic. I ask the Minister to give us an assurance that he will endeavour to have this matter attended to without further delay.

I have satisfied myself that the Commissioners are fully aware of the circumstances and that they are taking the most urgent steps to open these grounds. To open them prematurely would be to damage their future use, as the Deputy can well understand.
