Vol. 36 No. 9

Written Answers. - Ballyseedy N.S. Building.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that the building at present being used as a national school at Ballyseedy, near Tralee, Co. Kerry, is in a very bad condition, the roof being leaking, the walls cracked, and the desks falling to pieces; whether he is also aware that there is no sanitary accommodation connected with the school, although it is situated in the middle of a village, has an average of 112 and is staffed by four teachers, three of whom are ladies; whether every inspector of his Department who has visited the school for over 30 years has reported on its bad condition, and will he state what steps are being taken to provide suitable premises.

I am aware that a new school building is required for the accommodation of the pupils attending the Ballyseedy School, and, in this connection, would refer the Deputy to my letter to him of the 28th July last.

An application for a grant towards the cost of the erection of a new school-house was received from the Manager on the 14th October, and the issue is receiving urgent attention in my Department. The case will be expedited as far as possible.
