Vol. 56 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Auctioneers and Heifer Loan Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that Mr. Martin McGettrick, of Ballymote, County Sligo, who was appointed auctioneer for the sale of heifers at Bally mote, County Sligo, under the heifer loan scheme, and who conducted successful sales in 1933 and 1934, was superseded by another auctioneer in 1935, and if he will state the reasons for dispensing with the services of Mr. McGettrick, who appears to have given general satisfaction.

The appointment of auctioneers in connection with the Department's sales under the scheme of loans for the purchase of heifers is a matter entirely within the discretion of the Minister, and the fact that Mr. McGettrick, who previously acted in this connection at Ballymote, was not re-engaged this year is not to be taken as any reflection on the manner in which he carried out the work.
