asked the Minister for Agriculture if the foreign fishery poachers who recently fired on members of the Gárda Síochána off the Donegal coast have been traced by their registration marks and if representations have or will be made to the Government of the country in which those poachers reside to have suitable punishment meted out for this attack and if some drastic steps will be taken to put our own fishery patrols in a position to deal effectively with such marauders in future.

If this question refers to recent reports in the newspapers of alleged firing upon members of the Gárda Síochána by the crew of a French lobster boat on the Donegal coast, I may say that such reports were entirely without foundation.
