asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (a) the number of applications received for widows' and orphans' pensions under the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Act, 1937; (b) the number of applications decided up to and including the 31st October, and (c) the number of applications in respect of which (1) contributory and (2) non-contributory pensions were granted.
The information asked for by the Deputy is not available in relation to the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Act, 1937, alone. The following information refers to the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts, 1935-37, for the period ended 29th October, 1937:—
(a) 37,751 claims to widows' and orphans' pensions have been received.
(b) 35,274 claims have been decided (including 915 claims withdrawn or deemed to be withdrawn).
(c) (1) Contributory pensions have been granted in 1,729 cases. (2) Non-contributory pensions have been granted in 27,465 cases.
