asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the school years 1933 to 1938 inclusive the number of schools in operation at (a) the beginning and (b) the end of the year, the number of pupils on the rolls of such schools at (a) the beginning and (b) the end of each year, the average number of pupils on rolls for the year, and the percentage of average daily attendance to average number on rolls.

The information requested by the Deputy in respect of statistics at the end of each year for the years 1933-1937 inclusive will be found in the annual reports of my Department, which in accordance with statute have already been laid on the Table of the Dáil. Figures in respect of the beginning of each year are not available, but it may be taken that such figures correspond approximately with the figures for the end of the preceding year. Statistics for the year 1938 are in course of preparation but are not yet available as returns from some of the schools are incomplete.
