Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seed Potatoes Available.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (1) the quantity of certified seed potatoes available in this country at present, (2) the quantity exported during the current season up to 1st February last, (3) the corresponding quantities for last year, and (4) the cost to his Department of administering the scheme.

The following is the information asked for in (1), (2) and (3):—

(4) The cost of administering the scheme for development of potato growing as a cash crop in the present season is estimated at some £10,000. This includes the cost of administering the Agricultural Produce (Potatoes) Act, 1931, and the Destructive Insects and Pests Acts, 1877-1939, as regards the disease of black scab in potatoes.

Is the Minister satisfied that there is an adequate amount of seed potatoes here for home requirements?
