Vol. 82 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grain Importers (Éire) Ltd.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state the name of the individual put upon the board of Grain Importers (Éire), Ltd., at his recommendation; whether such person was put on the said board against the wishes or without the concurrence of the board; for what reasons this individual was added to the board; what special qualifications he had warranting his being so selected by the Minister; and if he shares in the division of the amounts collected by the board under the heading of expenses.

Mr. T.D. Hallinan was put upon the board of Grain Importers (Éire) Ltd. at my recommendation. He was at that time president of the Irish Flour Millers' Association, and he had been appointed to maintain liaison with the Cereals Import Branch of the British Ministry of Food through which this country's requirements of imported grain were being purchased. So far as I am aware, there is no foundation whatever for the suggestion that Mr. Hallinan was put on the board against the wishes or without the concurrence of the board and I feel bound to say that it is most regrettable that the Deputy has seen fit to put forward such a suggestion in this House.

I do not understand the last part of the question.
