For the year 1939-40:—(1) The total State contribution to the Unemployment Fund was £278,551 19s. 9d; (2) the total actual expenditure on unemployment assistance was £1,504,505 17s. 4d., and (3) the amount of the Appropriation-in-Aid received from county borough and urban area councils was £216,623 18s. 7d.
