Vol. 96 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballinamore (Leitrim) Lighting.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that there was no public lighting in the town of Ballinamore, County Leitrim, during the month of January and portion of February owing to the impossibility of obtaining supplies of anthracite to work the local lighting plant, and that a small supply since obtained for this purpose will be exhausted in about three weeks; and if, in view of the danger of serious accidents, he will arrange for the release of sufficient supplies of anthracite to the local lighting company to maintain the lighting service.

Representations have been made to my Department regarding the public lighting of Ballinamore. A permit authorising the purchase during each month of an adequate supply of anthracite for the generation of current for electric lighting covering the period December, 1944/March, 1945, has been issued to the proprietor of the Ballinamore Electric Light Works. The procuring of the permitted quantity of anthracite is, however, a matter for arrangement between the permit holder and his suppliers.
