Vol. 98 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fuel Transport Difficulties (Mayo).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the serious hardship imposed on at least 1,000 householders in Westport town and surrounding area by the lack of lorries to bring home from the bogs their supply of turf for the winter; and of the refusal of Córas Iompair Éireann to grant petrol to privately owned lorries to bring in such turf on half days and days on which these lorries are idle from national turf work; and, if so, if he will make representations to Córas Iompair Éireann with a view to the alleviation of the hardships caused.

I am informed that Córas Iompair Éireann have only four orders on hands at Westport for haulage of privately owned turf and that these will all be filled this week. The latter part of the Deputy's question does not, therefore, arise.
