Vol. 98 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abbeyleix Water Supply and Sewerage System.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that repeated representations have been made to the Laoighis County Council by the Abbeyleix Parish Council and by representative ratepayers in the area regarding the alleged defective water supply and sewerage system in the town; if any report or proposals for improvement have been submitted to his Department by the county manager concerned; and if he will request the county manager to expedite the provision of a modern water supply and sewerage system for the people of the area mentioned.

I understand that in May last preliminary plans for a water supply for Abbeyleix had been prepared by the consulting engineer, that the Abbeyleix Parish Council at that time questioned the source of supply and that in consequence further investigations were to be made by the consulting engineer. No definite proposals have so far been submitted by the local authority to my Department nor have any proposals been received in regard to the provision of a sewerage scheme for the town. I have asked the local authority for a report as to the present position of the water scheme.
